Finally, coming out on DVD this week comes the Dark Korean version of Hansel and Gretel. A reckless youngster Eun-soo drives to his mother’s, and has a car accident. When Eun-soo wakes up, he meets a mysterious girl and is led to her fairytale-like house in the middle of the forest. There, Eun-soo is trapped with the girl and her siblings who never age. Soon he learns all the adults who visited or stayed in the house have met mysterious yet terrible ends. More shockingly, their cruel deaths are drawn in details and made into a fairytale book by the children. Scared Eun-soo tries to find the way out, but the house is secluded in the forest with no way out. And then, Eun-soo discovers a book which tells a brutal end of none other than himself!

Thistle...

Here we have the indie band Thistle. In truth, you can hear bits of a host of genres in these songs, from early Texas is the Reason and Promise Ring to Pavement and even hints of hardcore bands like Fugazi. But I keep coming back to bands like Sugar and Engine 88. This band brings back that style with a modern twist.

Braid....

Simply put "Braid is the best 2d platform game ever." There are just three things you need to know about Braid, which is quite remarkable when you think about how many games there are out there which pile on extra levels of needless complexity. First, you should know that Braid is beautiful. Not just pretty, but beautiful. It isn’t like Crysis where you play it for a bit and occasionally go oooh and aaahh at the big explosions, it’s more like looking at a really nice painting or having a dream like the heaven-sequences from What Dreams May Come.The second thing you need to know is that the game is challenging. Again, not in the way that you might have come to expect thanks to a lifetime of shooters and reflex games. Braid manages to stand apart compared to even conventional puzzle games as it requires not just an ability to think laterally, but that you find a whole new way to think laterally. The third thing you need to know is that Braid is excellent. Let’s get that clear from the off – balls out of the bag, so to speak. Braid is phenomenal and you can stab me in the face with a soldering iron if I’m exaggerating about that.

Vampire Stereo Pick Of the Week:

Detroit Metal City is why I love bizzare Japaneese cinema. Negishi Souichi (Ken'ichi Matsuyama) leaves his family's farm in Oita Prefecture for the bright lights of Tokyo. There he swaps his taste in Swedish pop for the totally out-of-character death metal, taking on the role of vocalist in the trio Death Metal City and adopting the name Johannes Krauser II. This is a definite must see.

Off With Their Heads....

Off With Their Heads are a punk band that hail from Minneapolis and are signed to No Idea! records. From The Bottom is their most recent offering and upon first listen, definite comparisons to the Dillinger Four will arise and that's not a bad thing either. Upbeat guitars along with chanty chrous lines mixed with raspy yet clear vocals makes this a really enjoyable album and band.

Midnight Meat Train Review....

First, a little back history on this movie. Clive Barkers' Midnight Meat Train is only playing on one-hundred screens. Why you ask? Because the new studio head of Lionsgate is sabotaging any and all projects from the former studio hierarchy. Good ole' studio politics at play. They even dumped this movie into dollar theaters as to just barely fill their contractual obligations. These childish antics are sad because this movie rocks.

Midnight Meat Train will make people fear the subways as much as Jaws made people fear the water. Visionary director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Alive) shines in his American directorial debut as he stuns viewers with his no holds barred terror-filled horror film bound to be talked about for many years to come. Kitamura delivers gory visceral goods with this shocking horror movie and each of them is a hard punch to the cerebral. Gore hounds will be pleased Kitamura kept the spirit of the death scenes from the short story alive, was actually able to go beyond expectations in terms of the uniqueness of the kills. Most of them are so elaborate and so visually stunning, that you will find it hard to turn away, even though you want to. The audiences are witness to decapitations, slit throats, and bashed in faces guaranteed to make you gasp in fright.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Hand to Hand...

Hand To Hand is set to be the next great band to explode into stardom from Lifeforce, following such bands as Between The Buried And Me and Trivium. on their latest offering entitled Breaking the Surface they bring fresh dynamics into their base genre and expand them into something as meaningful as this.

Now that "Death Magnetic" the new album from Metallica is done what better way to warm up for its release than to play with the real King. Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called True Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have make their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar ‘Merlotte’s’ which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

I am going to keep posting for MosterCon once a month up until the show, so here you go. I wanted to give a shout out to my friend James and his band CROSSBREED. They recently inked a multi-album deal with Driven Music Group, Inc. — the Phoenix, Arizona-based music label and entertainment company created by Brian "Head" Welch, a founding member, songwriter and guitarist from the multi-platinum rock band KORN. The band is currently in the studio in Clearwater finishing up the mix of its new album. An October release date is expected, to be followed by a U.S. tour.

Dance Of The Dead....

Dance of the Dead is one of those movies that will surely become a cult classic. The film exhibits the look and feel of a 80's teen flick mixed with the comedy of Shaun of the Dead. It was an official selection of the SXSW film festival and for good reason. The movie certainly has a cheapend look to it, but that is what makes the film work. A throw back to old-school horror that is campy yet fun at the same time.

Kevin Smith wins appeal the MPAA.

Kevin Smith is victorious! The filmmaker, who had been given an NC-17 rating by the MPAA for his new film Zack and Miri Make a Porno, was forced to take the decision to the appeal process.
The rating would have prohibited anyone younger than 17 years old from seeing the movie, even when accompanied by an adult. The rating also would have prevented the film from being advertised in certain places and during certain times. Basically, The Weinstein Co probably wouldn’t have released the movie as an NC-17, because, of course, they need to make their money back. (Source. Slashfilm)

Yeti...

Yeti is a 4 piece churning out metal from Los Angeles California. Fans of that genre should be more than pleased, because Yeti certainly have the chops and vocal prowess to compete with the likes of Lamb Of God or any other band of that ilk. While their sound certainly won't win them any contests for originality, Yeti doesn't come off as sounding too stale either.

Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist...

NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST is a move about two teens whose lives revolve around music to such an extent that it becomes the compass that guides their direction. Nick(Michael Cera), the straight bass player in a self-described queercore band, spots his most recent ex-girlfriend with a new guy and, in an effort to make her jealous, asks the first girl he sees to pretend to be with him for five minutes.
